Stand for good
Local Businesses Team Up to Fight Drug Addiction in Sussex CountyVerizon Premium Retailer, R Wireless and TJ’s Pizzeria Café are neighboring businesses located at 107 and 109 NJ-23 in Franklin NJ. While it would appear at first glance that the two businesses have little in common, it turns out both companies share a culture of giving back to the communities they serve.
For the past three years, the two businesses have partnered to make March a “Month of Giving”, collecting and matching donations from their customers to help fight drug addiction in the community they serve.
Since 2018, the two companies have donated nearly $3,000.00 to the C.L.E.A.R. (a joint effort by law enforcement and addiction recovery, that helps individuals and families in Sussex County struggling with drug addiction) and were hoping to double that amount this year. Unfortunately, with the outbreak of COVID-19, both businesses plans were impacted.
While a lot about their businesses changed as their community began to re-open, one thing that hadn’t changed was their commitment to helping C.L.E.A.R. in their battle against drug addiction. Despite all the challenges both companies faced as a result of COVID-19, they were still able to donate $1,600.00 to C.L.E.A.R.
Mike Richards C.L.E.A.R. (Community Law Enforcement Addiction Recovery program) “The C.L.E.A.R. program is grateful for their continuing support. While financial contributions are needed more than ever due to the pandemic, it also comes at a time when many businesses are trying to survive themselves, making their donation even more special. Their campaign raises both awareness and funds, and sets a terrific example of the community support needed for C.L.E.A.R.”
Amit Singh (Area Director, R Wireless) commented, “We made the difficult decision to close our store in early March to protect our employees and customers, just as we were kicking off our annual “Change for Change” initiative for C.L.E.A.R. As we reopened, it was great to see our employees and the team at TJ’s wanted to pick up where they left off. I could not be prouder of our two teams.”
Steve Freaney (Co-owner TJ’s Pizzeria Café), “Our annual “Remember Their Smiles” cupcake fundraiser is an event where we sell smiley cupcakes symbolizing the smiles of the love ones lost too soon to addiction, including Robert J. Hontz. It was his passing that prompted us to get involved and take action. We were happy to have SB One Bank participate this year, and invite other local businesses to participate in the future. Together we know we can drive positive change in our community.”
