Local Verizon Retailer Partners with Colin’s Wish to Help Fight Opioid Addiction in Southern New Jersey
At R Wireless, we believe that anyone can change the world when given a hand to hold to move forward. Which is why we help local communities around us through our store-wide community contribution initiative called “Change For Change”.
Through our Change For Change initiative, our employees get to hand-pick the organization they wish to help and contribute to, allowing them to raise donations and awareness for the causes they are passionate about. We then match the store contribution our employees collect, dollar for dollar up to a $1,000 (individual store) and donate the entire amount to the selected organization.
This time, for the month of April, we partnered with Colin’s Wish, a non-profit organization that raises awareness and fights against opioid addiction in Southern New Jersey through our Ewing, Glassboro, Vineland, Tuckerton, Jackson, Cape May, and Delran stores.
Colin’s Wish is a non-profit organization created by Colin’s mother in memory of Colin Edward Windebank, aka LC, to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic that has hit our community especially hard. On October 30, 2017, Colin died from a heroin overdose; he was just 21 years old. It was a devastating loss for all who knew him, but especially more so for his mom as she lost her beloved son.
Colin believed that all people are worthy of love and deserved to be cared for, no matter what their circumstances. The beauty and kindness of his soul is felt by everyone that he touched during his brief time on this earth. If there was a person in need, Colin was the first to help in any way he was able to, and we are fortunate to be a part of the wonderful mission started by Colin’s Wish.
When we started our Change For Change initiative for April, we asked our customers to round up when making a purchase at our participating Southern New Jersey locations, with the aim of using that contribution to help further the mission of Colin’s Wish. Any customer donations made during the entire month were collected, and at the end of the month, matched dollar for dollar by R Wireless, with 100% of the proceeds going to Colin’s Wish.
Our employees were enthusiastic and excited to be able to contribute to the community and raise funds for the non-profit. As Robert Angeline, the District Manager for the participating stores of R Wireless notes, “I could not be prouder of the amazing work our employees are doing to give back to the community. We are grateful to have passionate employees and customers that help us make this possible for our friends at Colin’s Wish.”
When Marcy Hamburg, Founder of Colin’s Wish, was contacted about this partnership opportunity, she mentioned, “This partnership will go a long way in assisting us in our battle against opioid addiction in our communities.
